Books! Or lack of Books? (go back »)

Books and reading culture is rather absent in this part of the world (Northen UGANDA in E.Africa). The factors contributing to this are many.War has been here too long and books has not been  the most immediate priority. Also for long it has not been priority of government and other development stakeholders. As a result literacy level is below 10% . The latest Census quote Word- of -mouth as major source of communication (95%of population) .

I however , propose an alternative innovative intervention; if  each individul or groups choose to send a book (new or old on any subject even when partly damaged; for children or adult) by post or otherwise. In our Herbal Medicine Clinic, we have  of books , only for reference purposes. Our addresses are:
